Pigment Protocol

PFRANKMD™ Pigment Protocol treatments leverage the power of PICO Genesis and Clear + Brilliant Fraxel lasers for advanced non-invasive skin rejuvenation and resurfacing treatments. Based on specialized techniques developed by Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank, a leading New York dermatologist, this exclusive PFRANKMD treatment can address melasma, hyperpigmentation, and sunspots.

Uncover Your Glow with PICO Genesis Photorejuvenation

At PFRANKMD in Manhattan, our skin experts can help you revitalize your complexion. Our trained medical professionals create customized treatment plans to reduce the appearance of dark spots and discolorations. We often recommend PICO Genesis laser treatments to patients who are unhappy about skin discolorations that have been unresponsive to other treatments.

How Do Pigment Protocol Laser Treatments Work?

Pigment protocol treatments are personalized, employing specialized techniques to maximize the versatility and selective targeting of the Clear + Brilliant Fraxel and PICO Genesis™ lasers. The focused laser light energy penetrates the skin and breaks down pigmented areas. Because the laser produces a photochemical reaction rather than a thermal one, the treatment does not affect surrounding, healthy tissue. The result is a more even skin tone without the risk of damage.

Ideal Candidates

Pico Genesis and Fraxel Clear + Brilliant Laser treatments both present distinct advantages for individuals with light to dark skin tones who are dealing with pigment spots and early signs of aging. These cutting-edge treatments offer a wide range of patients a minimally invasive pathway to skin rejuvenation. Pico Genesis excels in its ability to effectively address pigment irregularities while maintaining compatibility with diverse skin tones, ensuring that individuals of all backgrounds can achieve a more even complexion. On the other hand, Fraxel Clear & Brilliant is renowned for its proficiency in tackling early signs of aging, such as fine lines and uneven skin texture, and is equally adaptable to various skin tones. Furthermore, both treatments are celebrated for their minimal to no downtime, making them ideal choices for candidates seeking a convenient, low-impact approach to achieving a revitalized and youthful appearance. More than one treatment session may be needed to achieve or maintain desired results.

Nurse Jen discusses the benefits of Fraxel laser treatment specifically for sun damage on the arms, detailing how this advanced skin resurfacing procedure targets pigmentation issues such as discoloration caused by UV exposure, promotes collagen production for skin repair, and plays a role in reducing the risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancers by improving skin integrity.

She demonstrates the visible differences between sun-exposed skin and protected areas on the body using close-up images, and explains the typical healing timelines for various body parts, including the face, arms, and shoulders, emphasizing factors that influence recovery such as skin type and treatment intensity.

Fraxel will brighten skin, even tone, and boost collagen. Seize the moment, because fall is the best time to see the light.

As the weather cools, lasers at dermatologist offices are heating up. The main reason: This is an ideal time for a laser treatment. Right now, you’re less likely to get as much intense sun exposure, which is especially dangerous to skin post-procedure because of the skin’s temporarily weakened barrier, says Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D., a cosmetic dermatologist in New York. Another potential factor?

“When patients have more flexible work-from-home schedules, the downtime that comes with a laser treatment seems doable to more people,” Dr. Frank says. There’s one laser in particular that has earned its status as the office’s workhorse: Fraxel @fraxel_us . It’s so good at evening out tone, fading scars, shrinking pores, and plumping skin that dermatologists turn to it for most of their patients’ antiaging needs. In fact, many make sure to get an annual treatment for themselves. “It’s the only device I’ve seen in my career that can do a little bit of everything effectively,” Dr. Frank says.

“Fraxel laser, is the top request when we start to see the leaves changing. I’d tell my patients to invest in a yearly Fraxel treatment over a slew of expensive antiaging products any day.”

Annual skin cancer screenings are essential, even for those without a family history. During a comprehensive screening, your dermatologist carefully examines your entire body for any suspicious moles or lesions. Detecting skin cancers early allows for simpler, more effective treatment and better long-term outcomes.

We also discuss how UV damage and sun exposure not only contribute to premature aging but are leading causes of non-melanoma skin cancers. Before proceeding with any laser or resurfacing treatment such as Fraxel, which effectively targets and removes sun damage, it is critical to ensure skin health and safety.

At PFRANKMD, we take every precaution. Before using a Fraxel laser, we thoroughly evaluate the skin to identify and biopsy any changing or suspicious lesions. This ensures both safe treatment and optimal aesthetic results, protecting your health while restoring your skin’s natural radiance.

Discussing the various skin resurfacing technologies available, including non-ablative options like Fraxel Dual and deeper Miria treatments, as well as ablative technologies like CO2 laser resurfacing and micro-coring with Ellacor. The best approach often involves combining multiple treatments to address the individual’s specific skin needs, taking into account factors like skin type, sun exposure, and downtime tolerance. The doctor-patient relationship is key in determining the optimal combination of treatments for efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐱𝐞𝐥: 𝐌𝐲 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Nurse Jennifer Schroder discusses her all-time favorite skin treatment, Fraxel. She loves the Fraxel Dual Laser, especially the 1927 wavelength, because it’s a predictable and versatile laser.

One of the most exciting benefits is its 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫. Clinical studies show that Fraxel Dual treatments can significantly 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬, such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. By targeting and removing precancerous sun-damaged cells (actinic keratoses), Fraxel helps create healthier, more resilient skin that is less likely to turn cancerous in the future.

Fraxel is also incredibly effective for 𝐬𝐮𝐧 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫. Years of UV exposure can lead to brown spots, irregular pigmentation, rough texture, and fine lines. The Fraxel 1927 wavelength penetrates precisely into the upper layers of skin, where sun damage accumulates most. This stimulates new collagen and cellular turnover, 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐨𝐧. Patients not only experience cosmetic improvement, but they also address long-term skin health.

Fraxel is a holistic treatment, with pre- and post-care steps that your care team will guide you through to ensure the best results and lasting skin health.

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐱𝐞𝐥 𝐯𝐬. 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐚:
Fraxel and Miria are both advanced laser treatments designed to improve skin texture and tone, but they work in different ways and target different concerns.

• 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐱𝐞𝐥: This is a fractional laser technology that creates microscopic columns in the skin, promoting natural healing and collagen production. Fraxel is effective for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and pigmentation. Most patients notice smoother, more youthful skin after a series of treatments.

• 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐚: Miria uses a gentle, non-ablative approach, making it suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin. This treatment focuses on rejuvenating the skin’s surface, improving brightness, and evening out skin tone with minimal downtime. It’s ideal for those looking for a refreshed appearance without a lengthy recovery.

The choice between the two depends on the patient’s specific skin needs and goals. In some cases, combining Fraxel and Miria over a few months yields optimal results to address multiple concerns, ensuring customized care for every skin type.

Fraxel is one of the most advanced laser technologies for treating stretch marks—both new, red marks and older, faded ones.

✨ How it works: Fraxel creates microscopic columns of controlled injury in the skin, stimulating collagen production and encouraging the skin to remodel itself. This improves both the color and the texture of stretch marks, making them less visible over time.

📅 On average, it takes 3–6 treatments for noticeable improvement, though the exact number depends on the depth, age, and type of stretch mark. Consistency is key—stretch marks that are older or deeper often require more sessions.

We treat a wide range of stretch marks, including:
✔️ Post-pregnancy stretch marks
✔️ Weight fluctuation–related stretch marks
✔️ Growth-spurt stretch marks
✔️ Muscle-building stretch marks
✔️ Hormonal or medication-related stretch marks

📊 Results shown here are after 5 Fraxel treatments. Each patient is unique, and the best outcomes often come from a customized plan that may combine Fraxel with other cutting-edge technologies available at PFRANKMD.

At PFRANKMD, our team takes a science-backed approach to create personalized solutions that deliver long-term beauty and confidence.
