First came fillers in the eighties, then lasers, then Botox for wrinkles—and there’s always been surgery. Now there’s Ultherapy®—a face and neck treatment that creates a brand new category in non-invasive aesthetics.
The Ulthera® System affords a degree of control, efficacy and consistency not seen to date with other tissue tightening devices. The Ulthera ultrasound energy is used to first see the layers of targeted tissue and then treat at a prescribed depth–with unprecedented precision.
Dr. Paul Frank speaks about Non-Invasive Skin Tightening technologies
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment FDA-cleared to lift skin on the forehead, browbone, neck, chin and décolletage. The procedure can be seen as a non-surgical mini facelift. Ultherapy uses advanced ultrasound technology administered through an interactive applicator. The applicator is synced to a large computer screen that monitors the ultrasound energy in real time. This enables Dr. Frank to control the amount of energy delivered and optimize its effect on skin tissue at every depth.
What is Ultherapy used for?
Ultherapy is used to lift and tighten the skin for a more vibrant appearance. Baggy and wrinkled skin, which can result from loss of collagen, exposure to the sun, or the body’s natural aging process, can detract from your look and make you appear worn out and older than you are.
How does Ultherapy work?
Ultherapy uses advanced ultrasound energy equipped with a specialized heating mechanism, targeting the skin’s tissues at the deepest levels to make visible improvements above the skin. The treatment essentially re-stimulates and revamps the skin’s collagen supply. Dr. Frank will customize your treatment to your individual needs, adjusting the temperature and application of the device to improve your wrinkles and tighten your facial skin. You will be given a mild sedative during your treatment, so that you feel completely comfortable and relaxed as Dr. Frank works his magic.
On what areas can Ultherapy be performed?
Dr. Frank most frequently recommends Ultherapy treatment to patients who are looking to make improvements to their facial skin. More specifically, this can mean that you want to tighten and lift skin concentrated around the forehead, chin, and neck areas. Ultherapy is also a great solution for sagginess above and below the eyelids, around the jaw and neckline, and between or around the eyebrows.
Who is the ideal candidate for Ultherapy?
Candidates for Ultherapy often choose the option as an intermediary between a dermatological filler and a facelift surgery. Ultherapy is recommended by Dr. Frank to patients whose condition is relatively subtle and who do not require as much work as those who seek an actual facelift surgery. Though there is no age requirement associated with Ultherapy, candidates are typically between 30-65 years old. For a more accurate evaluation of whether or not Ultherapy can work for you, schedule a one-on-one consultation appointment with Dr. Frank.
How many sessions must be performed before results are seen?
The number of treatments is determined on a case-by-case basis. Some patients only require a single Ultherapy session, while others may need two or three sessions to yield the same results. Because Ultherapy works by re-stimulating collagen production, the full effect of your results may take up to three months to materialize as your skin continues to respond to the treatment.
How long will results last?
Every patient responds to treatment differently. Factors that affect the results of an Ultherapy treatment include the patient’s aftercare, environmental factors such as sun exposure, habits such as smoking, and the patient’s intrinsic aging. Most patients who abide by a healthy skin care routine that includes a clean diet and regular exercise see noticeable results for as long as two years after treatment by Dr. Frank*.
Can Ultherapy be combined with other procedures? Which ones?
For more enhanced, long-lasting results, Dr. Frank may recommend that you combine your treatment with simultaneous means of skin tightening. You can get an Ultherapy treatment alongside injectable relaxants or fillers such as Botox, Juvederm, Dysport.
Is there any recovery time or downtime associated with Ultherapy?
One of the best aspects of choosing Ultherapy is that you do not need to worry about devoting any amount of time to a recovery period. There is little to no recovery time. You will not need to take off from work, school, or your daily routine.
What are the risks and side effects associated with Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a FDA approved procedure with minimal risk. Serious complications are few and far between, and should not be a major deterrent when deciding on getting the treatment. In fact, Ultherapy has been in use for over 50 years, since which time over a quarter million patients have been treated. A normal amount of swelling, redness, and even bruising can be expected; should any of these symptoms persist, contact Dr. Frank’s office for a follow-up appointment.
How much does Ultherapy cost?
The actual cost of an Ultherapy treatment varies depending on the extensiveness of your procedure and the specific areas you are looking to treat. In general, the price of Ultherapy as performed in our NYC office is about $1,500-$4,500. The cost of your procedure will be more accurately determined upon your initial consultation appointment with Dr. Frank practical for your budget.
