BOTOX

Age, gravity, environmental factors and repeated facial expressions all contribute to the lines and wrinkles that form on our faces. Botox is an injectable neurotoxin used to smoothen wrinkles and add volume where it has been lost. The main component of Botox, botulinum toxin, works as a muscle relaxer, blocking the signals that cause muscles to contract. When the muscles are numbed and relaxed, their ability to contract and produce lines is weakened. Dr. Frank is one of the best and most experienced Botox injectors to treat facial lines at various sites, making you appear more awake, revived, and youthful.

Indications for Botox

Botox is most often targeted at wrinkling concentrated around the forehead, between the eyebrows, above and around the mouth, and around the cheek area. Most patients seek Botox in an effort to turn back the clock. However, Botox is also used to treat a variety of other concerns:

Severe migraines – Botox can be injected into the temples to numb the nerves that cause painful migraines.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) – When injected into the armpits, Botox can reduce underarm sweating for up to two years. The toxin blocks nerve signals that command the body to sweat, thereby stopping the involuntary action before it starts.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) – TMD is most often seen in persons who grind their teeth. The disorder can cause soreness in the jaw and wear down the teeth. In addition to the discomfort, those who suffer from TMD may notice an increased jaw size due to the constant use of the muscles in the lower face. Botox injections in these muscles numb the nerves, stopping the constant grinding. Once the muscles are relaxed, the jaw eventually goes down in size. Botox can also be used to reduce jaw size in patients who do not suffer from TMD.

Ideal Candidates for Botox

Dr. Frank often recommends Botox for patients who want to treat the signs of aging without going under the knife. The ideal candidate shows moderate to severe wrinkling, is in good physical health, and is over the age of 18. Dr. Frank also commonly treats patients who are looking to touch up a past Botox procedure once the effects have begun to fade. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not use Botox.

Your Customized NYC Botox Treatment

When seeking Botox treatment, it is important to have a doctor who makes a conscious effort not to make you look fake or overdone. Too much Botox can make you look stiff and emotionless, and can detract instead of add to your overall look. Dr. Frank takes special notice to customize each Botox treatment to the individual patient’s facial anatomy so that you always look as natural as possible. Together, you will devise a plan that best suits your needs with realistic goals and expectations in mind.

Botox Results

Dr. Frank will inject a controlled, previously determined amount of Botox into the targeted sites. Results can be seen directly after the treatment. The results of a single treatment will last about 4-6 months, after which time it is recommended that the face be retouched*.

Recovery After Botox

Unlike a facelift, you do not need to plan to take off from work, school, or your normal physical routine and you will not show dramatic signs of treatment. There is no scarring and patients can apply makeup to cover bruising or redness at the site of the injections as long as the signs persist*.

Possible Side Effects of Botox

Normal side effects of Botox include mild swelling, bruising, and redness, each of which may disappear within 2-3 days after treatment*. As always, inform Dr. Frank of any health concerns, medications, and allergies you may have in order to make sure that the process goes as smoothly as possible.

It is important to be aware of abnormal side effects that can arise from a Botox injection. If you are experiencing any difficulty breathing or swallowing normally, contact Dr. Frank immediately. Also, because of its nature as a muscle relaxer, it is possible (but rare) for the effects of treatment to cause numbness in areas other than the treatment site. Dr. Frank will remain in constant contact with you should you have any questions or concerns following your Botox treatment.
