Vascular Lasers
Vascular lasers use specific wavelengths of light to target Hemoglobin, which is the active ingredient in blood. With this technology, blood vessels of various sizes can be targeted, heated up and destroyed with an excellent safety profile. Conditions associated with blood vessels can also be treated such as Rosacea, facial flushing, keloid and hypertrophic red scars, varicose veins, and tumors of vascular tissue such as port wine stains and hemangiomas. Pulsed Dye Lasers (PDL) are considered the standard of care in this realm. The V-Beam® by Candela® is the gold standard that we utilize in our practice. V-star and Photogenica are competing and similar technologies. In addition to PDL, there are longer wavelength and longer pulsed lasers that are used for both blood vessels and hair removal. Examples of this is Cynosure®’s Acclaim™ laser, Candela®’s GentleYAG and the 1064 Nd:Yag and the Lumenis® One. Finally there are smaller devices called KTP lasers that can specifically and only address visible capillaries or telangiectasias.
