Hair Removal Lasers

There are numerous devices on the market for laser hair removal. They vary dramatically in efficacy and number of treatments required. In addition, different lasers with various wavelengths of light are used depending on the patient’s skin color. Because the target for hair removal is the pigmented cells of the follicle, the ideal patient generally has fair skin and dark hair. By altering the wavelength of light used and the pulse width of the laser we can treat a variety of skin colors and hair types. Universally, it always takes several treatments to achieve permanent hair reduction. Currently, in our practice we use the Light Sheer® Duet™ laser which is a Diode Laser. The Light Sheer® technology has traditionally been the stronger and most variable device on the market. The newer Duet™ version allows for dramatically increased comfort and speed. Other popular hair lasers are alexandrite laser, long pulsed Nd:Yag laser, and Intense Pulsed light devices such as GentleLase, GentleYag, Apogee®, Quantum HR, StarLux®, and Elite.
