Age SpotsAge spots have several names including, liver spots, solar lentigines, and sun spots. They are a form of hyperpigmentation on the skin associated with ageing and exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. They are directly correlated to sun damage. The color and size of age spots range dramatically. They can be found on all sun exposed surface. Contrary to their common name, they are not at all associated with liver damage. They do suggest a significant long-term exposure to the sun and can be correlated to some degree with a risk for skin cancer. Although Age or liver spots pose no medical threat, there are cosmetically unappealing. They are not medically necessary to remove but are easy to treat. They can be treated with our medlite laser in just one treatment. If several are present throughout the face and body, the Photofacial treatments can be used for more generalized areas. At times, both techniques are utilized for complete results. Although in the past, liquid nitrogen or chemical where used to remove them, laser treatment remains the standard of care in both safety and efficacy.
